It’s all part of the story

1960s patina is a leitmotif that has gradually developed over the years at Café Korb. If you want modern, this is not where you go. And maybe this is exactly why the Viennese feel so comfortable here. Although Café Korb is practically full at any time of day, everyone always finds a spot. The local celebrity whom you know from television is busy reading the papers on the next table over. A group of creatives has settled in next to a well-to-do lady from the 1st district. Mr. Suburbia is having a goulash. Everything here looks ordinary and normal. No matter how eccentric the guest, no one looks twice. A gorilla could have his apple strudel and read his papers here –  and nobody would notice.

The “Supreme conductress”

Even Susanne Wildl, flamboyance personified, comes across as totally normal at this place. The femme fatale is the extravagant owner of Café Korb. She has been an internationally known actress, model, and artist. As landlady she follows in the footsteps of grandes dames like Anna Sacher, boss of the legendary hotel. Susanne Wildl is not only landlady, but also “supreme conductress”, conducting the exclusively male waiting staff through the café. And as woman in charge she seems to be doing a great job, because in contrast to the cliché of grumpy waiters at Viennese cafés, the waiters at Café Korb are always up for a laugh.

Tip: make sure you try the apple strudel!
